Understanding NY Child Support Laws

The NY child support laws are similar to those in other states; however, they possess a few distinctions that make them unique. However the intent and position of these laws are common across all sets as they do not entertain failure to pay child support on the parts of either the custodial or non custodial parent. S exemptions exist in that the cost of child care during the custodial parents work hours or time spent in school are factored in, such that the non custodial parent is forced to pay all or part of that child care expense. This also extends to medical expenses not covered by the insurance company whereby if the children are not insured under the custodial’s parent’s employment, the non custodial parent will be ordered for medical insurance.

The mode and the method of calculating these payments have been simplified through the use of guideline charts which make the computation easier and facilitate quick comparison of the respective parent’s income. I order o be on the safe side when dealing with NY child support issues, one should always enlist the services of a qualified family lawyer.
